(PRRRP) - Nest Box Project
Master Carpenter Roger with our finsihed PRRRP Nest BoxesTo Celebrate the 80th Birthday of the Avicultural Society of New South Wales (ASNSW), we have created a conservation trust as an on going legacy to supply Nest Boxes to parks and reserves spread around the iconic Parramatta River.
In conjunction with local councils and Olympic Park authorities we are suppling the PRRRP Nest Boxes to Councils to be allocated in specially placed locations in order to grow the habitat of these special little grass parrots and build the colonies currently found along the Parramatta River.
With the current housing expansion along the river of apartments and homes, the habitat with hollow trees for bird nesting has diminished. The ASNSW legacy aims to create 500 new homes for these beautiful grass parrots to grow their numbers and offer the families that are moving in along the Parramatta River with the opportunity to see these beautiful birds surrounding them in local parks and reserves and hear their melodic calls.
The ASNSW over 2020 will be placing 500 of these specially made PRRRP Nest Boxes from the historical Parramatta Park along both sides of the Parramatta River to Hunters Hill.
We will be putting in place a specially designed bird monitoring program to watch every specially numbered PRRRP Nest Box and this information will be added under the Conversation tab that you a currently viewing.
Your involvement in the PRRRP Nest Box Conservation Project —
- Will enable you to sponsor one of these specially made PRRRP Nest Boxes and obtain a special number along with naming rights as a sponsor of the Nest Box. You will be issued with a special ASNSW Conservation Certificate noting you as the sponsor of a PRRRP Nest Box.
- You will be able to view the location of your sponsored PRRRP Nest Box on an aerial map so that you can visit and see these special birds nesting and enjoying the home that you have provided for them.
- Will enable you to do your little bit to help preserve and build up the numbers of our special flying gems of the sky for future people to enjoy.
- You will also be able to purchase one of these specially designed PRRRP Nest Boxes and take it home and have it installed in your own backyard to attract birds. In doing so, you be providing them with a breeding habitat in your own backyard!
The PRRRP Nest Boxes are available in 2 sizes:
- Small — Dimensions: H: 29cm W: 19.5cm D: 23cm
- Large — Dimensions: H: 44.5cm W: 27cm D: 23cm
Your Sponsorship of a PRRRP Nest Box includes the following:

- Wire and screws for installation
- Oiled for weathering and water repellant
